{She Said} Adventures in Baby Registry

It was time- showers were over, baby is coming. Matt and I made the pilgrimage with credit card in hand to get the essentials off the registry that we were still lacking. Among them were some pretty high dollar items so we knew it was going to be a hefty investment but we had prepared and saved for months and were ready to endure the sticker shock. Little did we know that the sticker shock was going to be the least of our concerns.
We did get a coupon in the mail to complete the registry at 10% off, however, we didn’t know that it was one day only until we got to the store. This wouldn’t have been a problem if they weren’t out of the baby monitor (a major purchase), didn’t have the right color of stroller (a major purchase), and didn’t have empty shelves in many of the departments we needed to visit specifically. When Matt and I went to the front to ask about the monitor and correct stroller hue, we got the unique opportunity to utilize our good cop/ bad cop skills which, in summary, is basically me threatening to speak to a manager and Matt calming me down and then sweet talking the Babies R Us employee.

While we were working out how to get the 10% for one day only and get all the things Babies R Us was out of, the lady working with us looked over to her colleague and pointed out that the lovely young lady exiting the store had her purse stuffed with merchandise. This caused a bit of a ruckus with people running after her trying to get her plate number etc but in the end nothing could evidently be done. At this point I looked at Matt as if to say “where have you brought me???”

Another incident occurred while we were looking for and then closely examining a diaper caddy I had fallen in love with. I walked down an adjacent aisle, while Matt was inspecting the caddy, and noticed another pregnant woman and her husband operating the registry gun. As I ended the aisle and turned to meet Matt, the husband started yelling and degrading his pregnant wife. My eyes got huge and I know I got a concerning look on my face because Matt immediately moved to be between me and the man and asked me who he was talking to. After mouthing “his pregnant wife,” Matt and I listened for a bit trying to decide whether Matt needed to say something. In the end we decided the mind our own business but not before we made it pretty clear, through disgusted looks, to the husband that we didn’t approve of his behavior.

All this with swollen ankles and Braxton Hicks contractions. It was a beast of a trip.
