[He Said] 1 down, 4 to go

I'm here writing from a hotel room located in the capital city of the great state of Texas. I came down here to compete, on a team of two, in a national multi-day mock trial tournament. Day one is now over.

We wrapped up our first trial around 9:15 p.m. Our first round was against Tulane University School of Law in the matter of Harbour v. Southern Comfort Life Insurance Company. We represented the plaintiff in round one, which is to say we were against the big bad insurance company. Tomorrow we will start at about 8:00 a.m., against a school TBD, and we will switch to acting as counsel on behalf of the insurance co.

After a round is over, the presiding judges give a bit of feedback to the teams. They were, however, very careful not to give away anything that would suggest how they scored the round. We will not find out until after dinner tomorrow. Tulane has a very decent team this year, and it can sometimes be hard to predict the outcome of a trial under these conditions. It is generally good policy not to count on anything, one way or the other, until it's all said and done. With that, we are generally feeling okay about things so far and should continue into tomorrow just fine.

It's going to be a long day...
