Mock Trial Team Advances as Regional Semi-Finalists
FORT WORTH, Texas –One of two Texas Wesleyan School of Law mock trial teams became Region 10 semi-finalists at the 2010 National Trial Competition held at the University of Texas School of Law on Feb. 4-6, 2010.

A total of 24 teams competed from twelve law schools: University of Texas, Baylor, SMU, Loyola, Tulane, LSU, University of Houston, South Texas, St. Mary's, Thurgood Marshall, Texas Tech and Texas Wesleyan School of Law.

The law school’s team of 3L Matt Giadrosich and 3L Matt Gilpin was one of only eight teams advancing to the semi-final rounds of Region 10. Other teams advancing were two teams from the University of Texas and one team from Loyola, Tulane, University of Houston, Texas Tech and South Texas. The four teams advancing to the final rounds were the University of Texas, Texas Tech, South Texas and University of Houston.

“The competition was high-level with the preliminary rounds appearing much like final rounds I’ve seen at other mock trial competitions,” Vince Cruz, Jr., law school advocacy director and the team’s coach, said. “With this many talented teams, every round – even the preliminaries – were hard fought. I know that the judges faced some tough balloting, as there were many deserving teams that did not advance.”

Giadrosich and Gilpin faced teams from Tulane, St. Mary's and SMU in the preliminary rounds and South Texas in the semi-final round. South Texas, along with Texas Tech, went on to win the two final rounds, qualifying for the National Trial Competition finals among the top two teams from each region to be held in late March.
