{She Said} Pray For Something Minor

Capri went into the vet this morning. She has been acting a bit off for a few days now and this morning, as she was getting out of her bed, she yelped and then was walking very off balance and not putting any weight on her right back leg. I, of course, freaked out and scooped her up to cuddle and console her while Matt examined her leg. We can't see any external signs of anything being wrong. So she is staying at the vet for today for some tests and to be observed.

For those of you that may not know the story... about six months after we got Capri, she was acting kind of off. We took her to the vet and they diagnosed her with constipation- treatment: an enema. We brought her home that night and she was having some HORRIBLE responses to the enema but we figured she just needed to heal. We were worried enough about her that Matt and I slept on the floor in the dining room next to the kitchen (where she was sequestered due to her HORRIBLE side effects). In the middle of the night, we awoke to a gut wrenching cry. When we went to pick up Capri, she was limp. We rushed her to the emergency vet and they told us that she was in really bad shape and that we should prepare for the worst. Matt and I sat in a cold, hard waiting room for 4 hours, listening as her heart monitor would stop beeping, there would be a shuffle, and then it would start back up again. They finally came and told us that she was doing better at 7 a.m. and sent us to see our regular vet. Capri was (properly) diagnosed that day with Addison’s Disease. The treatment involves us taking her to get steroid injections monthly. It took her a few weeks under my mom’s diligent care to recover from the episode. We were told at the time to expect her to act like a different dog since her heart had stopped beating and thus lack of oxygen to the brain. But she was better- more loving, more energetic. Having addison’s makes it more difficult for Capri to recover from illnesses and ever since that first experience, I am a little jumpy whenever she acts a little off. This morning put icing on the cake.

I'm a wreck. My mind goes to the worst. Just think how I will be with my children.

**UPDATE** Capri was sent home yesterday afternoon with some pain medication and some muscle relaxers. My immediate reaction to hearing the latter treatment plan was as follows: "ummm isn't that going to render an unfavorable side effect... trouble holding her control over #2???" Matt and I had a moment of silence before deciding that for the good of the family we would hold off on those muscle relaxers to see if the pain medication would do the trick. So far so good. Bad news is that they don't really know what is causing the pain. I don't like that. Atleast she is feeling better... again.
