A week or so ago, Matt and I embarked on our first road trip since experiencing pregnancy symptoms (that is, since I have been experiencing them and Matt has been empathetic to me experiencing them). We were going to visit Matt’s family in Wimberley, an approximately 5 hour drive. The drive there was actually fine. I slept for the first half and then we ate and though I wasn’t feeling well after eating, it was really manageable.
In reality the drive back was fine as well. This was the first weekend that the extreme fatigue hit with a vengeance so I ended up sleeping much of the weekend away which then led me to be a perfectly lovely car companion on the way back until I had another fun symptom hit. I am pretty sure we stopped at every gas station between Waco and Ft Worth because not only did I need to use the facilities; it was an emergency every time.
Though I generally try to buy something when I use a place’s restroom, amazingly enough, I ran out of things and eventually just tried to slide in and out unnoticed. Matt was appalled by this behavior as he generally is disgusted by gas station restrooms anyway and I was using some pretty suspect ones.
All of this has made me understand that crazy astronaut and the adult diaper situation a little better. Way to problem solve.
