{She Said} Ahh the Joys... Debates Bring Out the Best in Them

We are doing debates today in class over which was a better president of Texas: Houston or Lamar. The kids really get into it…

• At one point a student rolled up his t-shirt sleeves and announced that he was “now going to bring out the big guns.”
• After giving a particularly compelling argument one student looked to his counterpart and said “that’s right, run home to mommy!”
• One student proclaimed that he was getting all fired up and pulled off his sweatshirt while bouncing around.
• One class made a chant to get themselves enthused about their particular arguments.

And my personal favorite of the day…

• In reference to where the Texas capitol should reside (Houston, of course, wanted it in Houston and Lamar, in Austin), one student closed with the fact that clearly Lamar was right because the capitol ended up in Austin to which another student gasped and said, “he is foreseeing the future, he must be a witch- BURN HIM!”
