{She Said} Let's Get Our (ahem) Stuff Together

So, I understand that Best Buy is irritated with Amazon for stealing their customers by offering lower prices. This seems to be a generational trend: getting mad at someone that is better than you rather than using that as motivation to be better yourself. Along the same lines is blaming others for your mediocrity. I recently received the following cartoon:

This is absolutely true. Upon receiving a poor grade, I remember being point blank asked by my parents, “what are you going to do about this?” Now, I commonly receive e-mails from parents asking how I am going to better support their student to ensure that they get a better grade. When students in my class have missing work, administration often asks me why I am not motivating them to complete their assignments.

We all need to join together and fight these character deficiencies that seem to be seeping into our society. Consider this a call to action, or maybe I’ll just go take a nap instead and in 20 years when we are all a mess due to lack of accountability, I will say that it is the fault of whomever is the new world superpower because they had to go and be so great. Stupid great new world superpower.
